The Blunt Axe Award was brought into existence by Paul Segers in 2009 to honor the 1st B.A.A. winner Luk Sponselee for his 25 years landmark of hyperactivity in the Eindhoven art scene (& far beyond). After that, it was decided that the NBF would continue handing out this Award to honor those that show the right attitude and militant optimism within the art scene and therefore, as a figure of speech 'chop with the blunt axe'...
The committee that decides who deserves the Blunt Axe Award is highly nontransparent, not to mention their motives and standards. The 3rd Blunt Axe Award was awarded to Dick Verdult.

De 3e Botte Bijl Award wordt door het Nieuw Brabants Front uitgereikt aan Dick Verdult als waardering voor zijn bijdrage aan de schone kunsten en alle andere gebieden waarbinnen hij werkt. (De 3e Botte Bijl Award werd dit jaar gemaakt door: Paul Segers, Stan Wannet en Anthony Kleinepier.)
